Campbells have become a bit of a household name recently with their excellent quality produce and customer service, which was more noticeable than ever during supermarket shortages at the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic. We've took the time to hear their top tips and recommendations.
1. Tell us a bit about Campbells.
Campbells Prime Meat are a family-owned craft butcher, fishmonger, and purveyor of deli goods based near Linlithgow. Our story starts over 100 years ago in 1910 when a young Thomas Campbell began his trade as a butcher. In 1958 we started a new part of the business supplying hotels and restaurants, and to this day we supply most of the fine eateries in Scotland including many with Michelin stars. In 1992 we started supplying French, Spanish, and Italian deli products and in 2000 also expanded the business as a craft fishmonger as well as craft butcher. In 2003 we launched our website where our customers can order restaurant-quality meat, fish, and deli products to be delivered to their door. We supply the same quality ingredients to our ecommerce customers as we do to Michelin star restaurants, giving the craft and quality of a local butcher and fishmonger with the convenience of ordering at home. We have also recently expanded our ecommerce team to keep up with demand for our products, and are rated excellent on TrustPilot with over 11,000 reviews.
2. How do you make sure the red meat you source is the best quality possible?
We work very closely with our suppliers, and have worked with many of them for a number of years. The suppliers we work with for our ecommerce customers are the same suppliers we use for our Michelin star restaurant clientele. Because we cut our products by hand our butchers and fishmongers inspect each delivery with great care. We also have a very experienced and talented Technical Team who ensure a high-quality product is delivered every time.
3. Tell us a bit about the relationships you have with the farms/Suppliers you work with.
We communicate regularly with our suppliers, giving extensive feedback on every order. We have a great amount of trust in our suppliers and the quality of products that are delivered to us. We also go to great lengths to work with the best Scottish suppliers.
4. Why do you think it’s important for customers to buy their meat from Scotch Butchers Club members?
It is important as Scotch is a marker of a high-quality product, and Scotch Beef in particular is praised around the world. Scotch products are also a sign that great care has been taken to ensure the farms the product has come from adhere to the highest standards of animal welfare and sustainable farming practices.
5. What do you think the most important thing to look for is when choosing a good quality piece of meat?
The most important thing to look for when choosing a good quality piece of meat is to check the provenance. The Scotch brand assures customers that the provenance is clear, that the supply chain has been scrutinised, and that the farming standards are ethical and sustainable.
